| Army gun down 3 militants near LoC | | |
Srinagar, Aug 28
Army claimed to a have gunned down three militants in frontier district of Kupwara, Tuesday morning.
The militants were killed in a gun battle which erupted between militants and security forces at Lashidat Machil sector, falling under the jurisdiction of Police Station Kupwara, an official spokesman told News Agency of Kashmir
The spokesman said that troops of 7-Para challenged a group of armed militants, this morning, in Machil sector. The militants, however, opened indiscriminate fire triggering an encounter.
Three militants were gunned down in the encounter, which was in progress, till the last report came in.
Sources said that the militants had managed to cross over to this side of Line of Control when they were spotted by the army personnel.
The identification of the slain militants was being ascertained, the spokesman added.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that the toll in Sogam encounter has reached to three as one more militant was gunned down on late Monday. Two militants were killed at the initial stage of the encounter, which started between the militants in the forest area of Kangarnar Dorswani on Monday.
Three AK 47 rifles, 11 AK magazines, 108 AK rounds, one Pistol, two Pistol magazines, 15 Pistol rounds, 10 Hand grenades and three Radio sets were recovered from the possession of the slain militants, whose identification was being ascertained.
