| Additional vacancies in police sought to tackle unemployment | | | SRINAGAR, AUGUST 29 Chairman Legislative Council Ghulam Nabi Lone today urged upon the centre to create about one lakh additional vacancies in Jammu and Kashmir Police to tackle the burgeoning unemployment problem in the state. The step would also facilitate confidence building measures among the turmoil revoked people of the state, he added. Addressing a public meeting at Nassar-ulla-Pora in Budgam district today, Mr. Lone enjoined upon the two neighbouring countries of India and Pakistan to start truck service along Jehlum valley road without further delay so that world famous fruits and handicrafts goods from Kashmir could be sold in Rawalpandi and other parts of Pakistan. The confidence building measures would help farmers, fruit growers, artisans and traders to fetch better remuneration of their produce in the market. Minister for Forests, Qazi Mohammad Afzal, Minister for PHE, Horticulture and Tourism Mr. Mohammad Dilawar Mir and senior vice President PDP Moulvi Iftikhar Hussain Ansari and General Secretary PDP Mr. Nizam-ud-din Bhat also addressed the public meeting. Qazi Mohammad Afzal reiterated government’s commitment for providing all basic amenities to the people of far-flung and backward areas at par with urban areas. He called upon the people to supplement government efforts for a prosperous and developed state and to ensure a secure and prosperous future for the posterity. Mr. Dilawar Mir underscored the need for liberating the people from shackles of economic siege and subjugation adding that revival of cross border trade and tourism was imperative for this purpose. He endorsed the plea of PDP, President Ms Mehbooba Mufti regarding setting up of a SAARC university in the state to open new horizons of higher education for the youth. Moulvi Iftikhar called upon th people of all shades of opinion to jointly fight for their rights and justice. He urged the need for forging communal amity among various seats adding that this was imperative for speedy socio-economic transformation of the society.
