| Multi-tier security activated along LoC in JK ahead of I-Day | | | JAMMU, AUG 13 The army has stepped up patrolling along the 742-km Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir as part of multi-tier security arrangements to foil any attempts by terrorists to disrupt Independence Day celebrations.
"Multi-tier security has been activated along the Line of Control (LOC) and intensified round-the-clock patrolling is being carried out to prevent infiltration and suicide attacks by militants in forwards areas," a top army official informed.
Troops guarding the border with Pakistan have been put on alert and a high degree of vigilance is being maintained, he said.
While the first tier of security is maintained by the army along with the border fencing, the police and village defence committees (VDCs) are acting as the second and third tier of security, a top police officer said.
"Night curfew has also been imposed in the area in one to two kms along the Indo-Pak border as a security measure to conduct any operation," the officer said.
Border outposts (BOPs), observation posts (OPs) and bunkers have also been directed to remain vigilant around the clock and inhabitants of border areas asked to remain alert.
"There are possibilities of militant attacks on these installations," the army official said, adding that security has also been strengthened in and around army camps and formation headquarters in the state.
