| Regional SARAS Fair-2007 inaugurated | | Jugal underlines the need for upliftment of people living BPL | | Srinagar, August 31 -Minister for Rural Development Jugal Kishore Sharma has underlined the need for upliftment of people especially living below poverty line and extending all possible facilities by the government. . Jugal was addressing Regional SARAS Fair-2007 after formally inaugurating it at Kashmir Haat yesterday. Appreciating the efforts put in at the national and state level to promote the products of rural artisans, he hoped that the fair organized by J&K State, being third consecutive of its kind will promote goodwill amongst the rural artisans and help them in understanding each other. Jugal released a special issue of “Dehat Sudhar” journal containing various programmes of Rural Development and achievements registered by the department during last financial year on this occasion. Secretary Rural Development Mohammad Syed Khan while addressing the function called upon the artisans of J&K State as well as the artisans from other states participating in the Fair to redouble their efforts in producing quality products which could find better marketing at national as well as international level. He said that state government would leave no stone unturned in helping the skilled workers and artisans and also in mitigating their grievances so that this community would prosper and live a glorious life. Drector Rural Development Mohammad Ashraf Bukhari on this occasion said that the Fair organized for rural artisans would definitely bring the producer and the buyer of the products in direct contact by eliminating the middlemanship, who otherwise exploit the both, particularly the rural artisans. He said since rural artisans are not aware of the market potential and the competitive rates, which their products would fetch. Jugal Kishore inspected the 260 stalls in which 134 self-help-groups also participated.. Jugal enquired about their welfare and the facilities being provided to them. He directed the concerned officers to ensure that the rural artisans are provided better facilities as for as possible. The Fair would remain open up to September 7th for general public and the entry would be free. State Nutrition Officer, . Pramula Gupta was also present on the occasion.
