| Water sports centre inaugurated | | Dilawar for rekindling spirit of adventure among local youth | |
Srinagar, August 31 – Minister for Tourism Mohammad Dilawar Mir inaugurated water sport centre at Nigeen Boat Club. The function was attended by Secretary Tourism and office bearers of tourist, trade, travel agencies and houseboat owners association. The Minister while addressing the function said that the renovation of this centre is the beginning of an ambitious programme of our department to provide world class facilities to tourists in adventure related activities. He said that the government is interested in rekindling the spirit of adventure in the local youth also. He said that nature has blessed our state with varied terrain, lakes in the city and high altitudes, rivers and streams, mountains and passes and these provide scope for development of varied adventure activities- mountaineering, trekking and water sports. These include rafting, water skiing, surfing, parasailing, kayaking, and canoeing. He said government plans to give special impetus to water sports as the activities can be held in the city or in the near vicinity, for the more dare-hearted rafting beckons in Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Gurez and Ladakh. A cultural programame was also presented on the occasion.
