Qureshi, 77, who had served as a minister in the Indira Gandhi government, is likely to take over on September 3 to become the first person from Jammu and Kashmir to occupy the post which fell vacant after Mohammed Hamid Ansari's election as Vice-President. On being approached by the Centre, Qureshi gave his consent for appointment to the post recently. An official announcement of Qureshi's announcement is likely in a day or two.
