Sets target of winning absolute majority
8/31/2007 10:06:21 PM

Jammu, August 31
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad has set himself a target of winning absolute majority in the 2008 Assembly elections. And to make it a reality Azad, it is learnt, has already set his eyes on crucial Assembly seats which could fall in Congress kitty in both Jammu and Kashmir region to realize his dream.
Sources close to Chief Minister said that in his recent meetings with party legislators Azad made it clear that compared to 15 seats in Jammu region and 5 seats in Kashmir which the party had won during 2002 polls the congress should aim at winning at least 10 seats more in each region.
Sources said, to realize his dream Azad had already indicated to the party high command that he has already set in motion a secret mission to identity the strong candidates in various assembly constituencies.Azad has put his close confidants on the job and is in the process of finalizing the names of the party candidates expected to contest the polls .
Party insiders said that Azad plans to induct senior Gujjar leadership in to party fold and is also contemplating another cabinet reshuffle in the near future so that he can entrust energetic party workers and senior ministers the job of winning maximum seats for the party before forming the next government.
It is learnt that soon after Azad got hints that a coterie of Delhi based politicians is working against him and feeding incorrect information to the party President and chairman of the UPA Sonia Gandhi he lost no time and also clarified his position to the party high command that given a fress hand he would be able to win more seats for the party than expected. Azad, according to learned sources had also sought free hand to handle the party affairs in the state to return to power. A senior political observer while commenting on the present political situation in the state said that Azad is fighting a tough battle of his life in his home state.”It is do or die for him as stakes are high for him and he would love to improve his past track record than return empty handed.
