Sects clash over eve teasing; curfew imposed

SRINAGAR, Aug 31:
Curfew was imposed today in Shelveth, village of Sumbal when two sectarian groups clashed over eveteasing incident. Thirty five people from both sects were injured and several others were arrested.
The incident happened last night when the supporters of National Conference were returning from a rally nearby which was addressed by party president Omar Abdullah. On their return locals alleged that the rallyists were found eve teasing the local girls. The altercation followed and people from both sides resorted to firing and stone pelting. Shelveth village considered to be supporters of PDP and followers of Shia leader Molvi Iftikhar Hussian Ansari went on the rampage and damaged the property belonging to majority community. Police failed to put the unruly mob in check and today in the morning authorities clamped curfew.
