| Marriage in school compels students to abandon education | | | Poonch August 31: For the last three days, a marriage is being solemnized in sprawling building of government Higher Secondary School Mendhar, forcing the vast number of students to take leave off the institution. The 120 brigade camping in the school since August 26 to teach the children of the area about sports are also forced to stop their activities. Despite resistance of the Principal, Higher Secondary School, Mendhar, Deputy Commissioner, Poonch allocated permission to an influential man of the town for the marriage. When contacted, the Deputy Commissioner of Poonch avoided the question despite our frequent queries regarding the matter, said a Jammu based news agency. The principal of the institution, Abdul Hamid Fani said, "I know that the educational institutions are not meant for marriage parties but what can I do, they have been permitted by the District Magistrate." Abdul Rashid, a class 10 student said, "we are losers both in studies and sports. It was an opportune time to learn techniques of different sports from the 120 Brigade camping in the School" Haneef Mohammed, a class 12th Student said, "it is not only the students of this institution who are suffering losses but the children of all the adjoining institutions are at losing side. It was a great opportunity for the children of the area to learn some important skills during the ten day long camp of 120 Brigade, organized by 5 Assam regiment but unfortunately four days have already passed and precious time is wasted."
