| Cong at receiving end: Leaders blame discrimination | | | Jammu,September 1 :-Not only the BJP and the Panthers Party but the Congress leaders, belonging to the Jammu region, continue to be incensed over what they call procrastination on the part of the state Government in redressing basic problems being faced by the people in Jammu. Leaders of these three organizations said here today that despite repeated assurances by the Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad,and Health Minister,Mangat Ram Sharma, “some of our main demands were yet to be conceded by the Government.” In this connection they referred to the wage disparity of daily wagers in Kashmir and in Jammu.Harsh Dev Singh said that “while the daily wagers in Kashmir were given Rs.2100 per month those in the Jammu region were paid Rs.500.” He said that concerned Minister besides the Chief Minister had made a commitment on the floor of the House that this anamoly would be ended but the wrong had not been rectified. BJP Leader,Dr Nirmal Singh said that over five years have passed and the ruling coalition has not been able to resolve the acute shortage of drinking water.He said the Chief Minister has feigned ignorance when he recently said that he did not know about the drinking water scarcity. He and others wanted the Government to initiate steps,on a war footing, for supplying drinking water to people. A senior congress leader said that “in the Kashmir valley more than 10,000 people had been appointed as daily wagers and some among them as adhoc employees especially in the PHE and against this not more than 500 people were engaged as daily wagers in Jammu. He said several Congress leaders, including legislators, had mounted pressure on the Chief Minister but the level of discrimination continued indicating that senior bureaucrats were sabotaging Mr Azad’s plans. He praised Mr Azad for his visions and policies but suggested to the Chief Minister to ensure that his assurances and commitments were fulfilled within a reasonable time. Another leader said that after years of his fight the PHE Minister,Dilawar Mir had promised to get the Boria filtration plant commissioned within next two to three months.He said “we are watching whether the Minister will fulfill his commitment or not.”
