| Drug kits worth 6 cr being provided to “ASHA” | | 8000 posts filled up by recruitment Agencies: Mangat | | Srinagar, September 01 – Minister for Health and Medical Education Mangat Ram Sharma today informed the Legislative Council that the department received Rs.5.98 crore for purchase of different Drug Kits under NRHM which also includes ASHA Drug Kits. He said orders for purchase of all the prescribed drug kits were placed with Central PSU in March 2007. However, the PSU failed to supply these kits, with the result the department was forced to approach other Central PSUs manufacturing most of these drugs kits. The Minister was replying to a question by Mr. R. S. Chib in the House. He said that proper training is being imparted to ASHA workers and this is being done in a phased manner. He said that the appointment of ASHA workers is done in the pattern of Rehbar-e-Taleem. Replying to another question by Mr. Abdul Gani Vakil, the Minister said that government has created 320 posts of drivers in Health Department and formal engagement of these posts would be made shortly. He said 30 drivers have been engaged on voluntarily basis in the Health Department of district Baramulla on the recommendations of the MLAs and MLCs during the last three years. These drivers are being paid from Hospital Development Fund. The reply was followed in supplementaries by Ms. Sakina Itoo, Prof. Bhim Singh and Mr. Nazim-ud-Din Bhat. In reply to another question by Mr. Ashok Kumar Sharma, Mr. Mangat Ram said that the government has referred 18,981 posts to PSC, SSRB and district level recruiting agencies during the last 5 years, out of which PSC has made recommendations for 1,912 candidates and SSRB of 5,976 candidates for their selection to various departments under various categories so far. However, he said government has not made any commitment to adjust all unemployed persons adding that it is not possible to provide government jobs to every unemployed person. The main thrust of the government is on self-employment schemes being implemented by the different departments, he maintained.
