Toeing Paharis, now Gujjars of the state are planning to launch an agitation against Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for not bringing the political reservation bill in the assembly session what the Gujjars say he had promised to them on August 6 in a function held at Gujjar Desh Charitable Trust at Jammu.
On August 6, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad had announced to table a political reservation bill in the coming assembly session through which Gujjars of Jammu and Kashmir were to be given political reservation in the state. Soon after this announcement by the Chief Minister, the Paharis came out with up in arms against Azad and started protesting against the move across Rajouri and Poonch border region in particular where both the communities share 60-40 population ratio. However, the Gujjars had welcomed the statement and were seen celebrating the announcement by the Chief Minister.
Now, with the conclusion of assembly session on August 31 at Srinagar with out any such discussion in the house, the Gujjars are feeling to have been dodged and duped and they have decided to launch an agitation against what they called the political blackmailing of Gujjars. Ghulam Rasool Asgar , state president Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Islahi Committee, has threatened to launch state wide agitation against Azad and Congress in the coming week for making a fun with the Gujjars of the state. “ I have directed to all my cadres in every district of the state to prepare for a big agitation in the coming week. We have decided to go door to door to tell the Gujjars that they are being politically blackmailed by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. He (Azad) has come back from his promise and he will have to face the consequences in the coming assembly elections”, said Asger adding that Azad had made fun of them. Not only this, All India Gujjar students Federation has decided to organise a big protest on Monday at Jammu to express their resentment for not bringing political reservation bill for Gujjars in the house.
Shahnawaz Chowdhary, state president, All India Gujjar Students Federation, said that he has already planned to organise a big protest demonstration on Monday at Jammu against what he termed the Chief Minister made fun of Gujjars. “ The Gujjar Students organisations have assembled together today and have decided to launch an agitation against the political exploitation of Gujjars in the state. And the Chief Minister has made another fun of our community. We will expose him in the masses”, said Shahnawaz Chowdhary.
