Cabinet reshuffle likely next week
9/2/2007 10:05:41 PM
Jammu, Sept 2: After a prolonged delay, the much awaited cabinet expansion and reshuffle in the council of ministers has become a near certainty coming week.
Highly sources told EARLY TIMES that the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad is most likely to induct some new ministers and change portfolios of some other on September 6. "The expansion and reshuffle is tentatively slated for September 6 and if this date is not kept the expansion may seen an ordinate delay", said a top political source.
Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad who is away will be returning to Srinagar on September 5 –a day ahead of the expansion. Sources also pointed out that the Chief Minister decisively planned an itinerary off summer capital for few days to avoid any pressure or lobbying for the induction of ministers or reshuffle of their portfolios.
It is almost being full one year since the Chief Minister carried out last expansion in the council of ministers. Since then the aspirants from both parties –the Peoples Democratic Party and the Congress have been waiting keenly. Interestingly, the lobbying efforts of the aspirants too had died down as the Chief Minister never gave any indication of his mind about the expansion.
The expansion is most likely on September 6 as the next day PDP patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed is leaving for America to attend a conference in Toronto on Indo-US relations, said a source from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The Chief Minister is likely to induct four new ministers –including one cabinet minister and three Ministers of State. The post of one Cabinet Minister, sources said, is all set to go to the Peoples Democratic Party. One Minister of State each is likely to be inducted from Congress, Peoples Democratic Party and the independents.
The names of some legislators likely to be inducted into the council of Ministers are prominently taking rounds but the EARLY TIMES does not wish to carry speculations.
