| Center-State WG meets | | | New Delhi, Sept 2: The Working Group set up by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh met here today under the chairmanship of Justice Saghir Ahmad. The meeting was attended by all the members representing various political parties. The issues relating to regional imbalances in development and related matters came up for discussion in the meeting. The matters pertaining to backward areas within the three regions of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were also discussed. Among others the meeting was attended by Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saiffudin Soz, Members of Parliament Mr. Arun Jaitley, Ms. Mehbooba Mufti, Choudhary Aslam, Speaker Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Mr. Tara Chand and leader of opposition in the State Assembly Mr. A. R. Rather. The members recommended that unity and integrity of the state must be preserved and steps should be taken to ensure that all areas of the state receive the benefits of planned development equally. Special emphasis was also laid on removal of regional imbalances and provision of equal employment opportunities to all. The issues relating to refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 were also discussed. Chief Information Commissioner, Mr. Wajahat Habibullah made a presentation on 'Local Self Government in Jammu and Kashmir '. Special invitee Mr. N. N. Vohra, consultant Mr. Jalil Ahmad Khan, and Financial Commissioner (Coordination) Mr. Ajit Kumar were also present in the meeting. The Working Group will meet again tomorrow.
