Local tourists among 6 killed, 2 wounded in mishaps

Jammu, Sep 02 :Six persons, including three workers of Choudhary Power Project, were killed and two others wounded in two separate road accidents in Jammu region, since last 24 hours.
Official sources said that three workers, including a resident of Mumbai, were killed when their vehicle met with an accident on Gandoh-Bhallesa road while three local tourists, on way to Jammu's hill resort Patnitop, were killed and two others injured in a road mishap on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, near Chenani, late on Saturday evening.
Giving details, a senior police officer told News Agency of Kashmir that a pickup van – JK02-4125- skidded off the road and fell into a 500 deep gorge near Shallan on Gandoh Bhallessa road.
Three persons traveling in the vehicle died on the spot, he said. The deceased were identified as Sachin of Mumbai, Vinod Kumar of Nowshera and Khalid Ahmed of Kishtwar.
Police said that it launched a rescue operation to evacuate the victims. The rescue team faced a tough time to recover the bodies from the gorge, it added. The deceased were said to be working on a mini-power project being executed by Choudhary builders.
Meanwhile, police said an Indica (JK02C-110) vehicle, which was on its way from Jammu to Patnitop, met with an accident at Dharamthal, Chenani on Jammu-Srinagar Highway, late last night.
Three persons were killed on the spot, while two others were injured critically, sources said. The deceased have been identified as Rohit Kumar son of Ashwani Kumar of Talab Tilloo, Rajinder Singh Manhas of Satwari and Anil Kumar Chandel son of Gian Chand of Roop Nagar.
The injured, who were shifted to GMC hospital Jammu, have been identified as Vinod Sharma son of Sita Ram Sharma of Akhnoor and Vineet Mahajan son of Sushant Mahajan of Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.
