| Basic aim of education should be character building’ | | | Srinagar September 02 (INFO) – Chief Secretary Mr. C. Phunsog has said that primary aim of education should be to build character of an individual. He said strength of a nation is reflected through its upright and enlightened citizens and education is instrumental for imbibing qualities of uprightness and honesty among youth. Addressing an annual day function of Qamaria Model Educational Institute, Saloora Ganderbal here on Saturday, Mr. Phunsog said that private schools are supplementing the responsibilities of the government in education sector, aiming at providing quality and standard education to the youth of the state besides providing employment. Emphasizing the need for providing mental, moral and physical education in the educational institutions, the Chief Secretary said that due to overall change in the world scenario, it becomes imperative for all the institutions to bring their students within the ambit of latest technology. He said that latest technology has made the whole world global village adding that even surgeries and medicines are being now conducted through tele-system across the world. Referring to the education system in the state he said that government have given expansion to its education sector by opening Degree Colleges at various places in the state and also upgraded several middle, high and higher secondary schools in the remote areas. Referring to the private schools functioning in the state he said that 3438 such educational institutional exist in the state. He appreciated the management of the school for making latest education facilities available to the students. Chairman Qamaria Educational Institute Shekih Ghulam Rasool in his address shed light on various aspects of the institution and said that the institution has achieved 96 per cent result in 10th class, while 94 percent in 12th class in Board examination last year. The students of the school presented a clourful cultural programme on the occasion. The Chief Secretary later announced Rs 10,000 cash prize for the participants and distributed best teacher awards and trophies to children. Among others present on the occasion were District Development Commissioner Ganderbal Mr. G. N. Bodha, Director SKIMS Dr. A. H. Zargar, Joint Director Information Mr. Khursheed Ahmad Geelani, Prof. Abdul Haq and Assistant Commissioner Revenue Mr. Munir-ul-Islam.
