| Last nail: Rekha removed as HoD | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu, Sept 3: In what can be described as end of a row or beginning of yet another full blown clash, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Jammu Prof Amitabh Mattoo has removed Prof Rekha Chowdhary as Head of the Department of the Political Science. A fully drawn up controversy was on in the Jammu University since last week after some youth claiming to be the Shiv Sena activists barged into the office of the Vice Chancellor along with a posse of reporters lodging a complaint Prof Chowdhary. They were protesting against an opinion poll conducted by a research organization for the television channel CNN-IBN, Indian Express newspaper and Pakistani daily Dawn. The survey which was extensively published by the Indian Express, telecast by the CNN-IBN channel and also available on the website of all these groups had claimed that a majority of those interviewed in Srinagar vouched for independence. However, the opinion was on the contrary among the interviewees of Jammu. According to Jammu University authorities the 'Shiv Sena' activists alleged that Prof Rekha Chowdhary had offered the services of her students as they also alleged that the survey findings were motivated. The Vice Chancellor without losing any moment ordered an inquiry to look into the matter. However, reacting to the action of the Vice Chancellor in ordering inquiry, Prof Rekha Chowdhary wrote an open letter circulated among all University teachers and also forwarded to the Governor and the Chief Minister "exposing the misappropriations in the University". This had the University on the boil. The order of removal from the post of HOD was issued by the VC on the recommendations of Dean Social Sciences, who was reportedly probing the role of Prof Rekha Choudhary in the opinion poll. It may be mentioned here Prof Rekha Chowdhary and the Vice Chancellor have been dagger's drawn ever since the later took over as the Vice Chancellor.
