| Sanju's visit tickles funnybone | | The red beacon car puts authorities in 'red' | | Jammu, Sept 3: Bolloywood actor Sanjay Dutt who enacted a chord of emotion with the people of Jammu during his visit to the holy cave shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi could not avoid courting a controversy even though he had vowed to visit the shrine as an ordinary pilgrim. When Sanjay Dutt reached Jammu airport Sunday along with friend Manyata and three others, the authorities here provided him with a VIP ambassador car along with the full Police escort for his onward journey to Katra. With VIP car fitted with red beacon has come under question as in what capacity it was offered to the actor who by no means can be treated as an official guest howsoever popular he may be. Sanjay Dutt, it may be mentioned here, is a convict until declared innocent by the Supreme Court where his application is pending hearing. He is out of the jail on an interim bail and as such the action of the authorities in providing him with a beacon fitted car has come under the question. The car and escort was provided to him by the Security wing of the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The officers of the security wing are now offering lame excuses on this account. When contacted, a security official told EARLY TIMES, "we were under impression that Sanjay is being accompanied by his sister Priya Dutt who is a sitting Member of the Parliament and as such is entitled to the VIP treatment". The Hospitality and Protocol department has feigned complete ignorance of the issue. Meanwhile, reports reaching here from New Delhi said that Dutt refused to comment on the issue on being asked by the reported when he reached there. "I have no idea about it," he told reporters at the Delhi airport after returning from the shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. Braving rough weather, Dutt and his girlfriend Manyata along with two other friends had visited the shrine last night. The 48-year-old actor, sentenced to six years imprisonment in connection with the Mumbai blasts case, is currently out on bail. Dressed in a white kurta and jeans, Dutt did not respond to any other questions and only said "Jai Mata Di" as he left for Mumbai.
