| SRTC employees call indefinite strike | | Demand release of pending salaries | | Jammu, September 03 : Employees of state Road Transport Corporation today went on indefinite strike paralyzing inter state transport services demanding release of four month salaries and employment for next kin of SRTC employee Anil Sharma who died due to sudden cardiac arrest due to stress. Before going on indefinite strike the agitating employees of SRTC blocked traffic near Bikram chowk for about half an hour and shouted slogans against the state government and held transport minister Hakeem Mohd Yaseen responsible for the apathy of thousands of SRTC employees.More than five hundred employees had assembled to register their protest and held state govt responsible for their plight. We are in a very bad condition, for last four months we are not getting our regular salaries.Our children demand money for their tutionfees but we cannot provide them, helpless employees said narrating their endless tales. Due to the strike all road transport between Jammu and neighboring states such as Punjab,Haryana,Rajastah,HimanchalPradesh and New Delhi came to a halt and passengers were subjected to lot of hardships as private bus operators started charging hefty fares.Moreover in the absence of direct bus service to several cities the passengers were diverted to railway station to catch train dropping them at their nearest stations. President of the SRTC Employees union Amreek Singh Sasan said that the employees will not resume their work till state government releases their salaries pending for last four months. The employees were demanding immediate assurance from the state government to provide employment to the next kin of one of their deceased colleagues who died while in office.The corportation already in doldrums will have to bear the losses on account of indefinite strike.
