HFW doctors, para-medicos call off strike
Govt contemplating to provide security to health institutions: Mangat Ram

Srinagar, September 03 – Saying that government is contemplating to provide security staff to all health institutions in the state, Minister for Health and Medical Education . Mangat Ram Sharma stated that issuance of an ordinance is also under active consideration of the government under which the property of those elements would be seized who indulge in damaging the health infrastructure adding that the construction, repair and cost of equipment would also be recovered from them.
The Minister was addressing doctors and para-medical staff of Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital (JLNM) Rainawari here today who were on strike from 31st August demanding early action against the miscreants who had on the same day beaten the doctors and para-medical staff besides damaged equipment worth lakhs of rupees after reported death of a patient.
MLA Hazratbal . Mohammad Syed Akhoon and Director Health Services Kashmir Dr. Muzaffar Ahmad accompanied the Minister during the visit.
. Sharma said that the doctors and para-medical staff are most respectable citizens of our society. “They serve the mankind with utmost zeal, dedication and missionary spirit to save the precious lives of patients. We should respect them and cooperate with them”, he said.
The Minister assured the doctors and para-medical staff that action has been initiated against those persons who are involved in mischievous activities and said that a three-member committee has also been constituted to inquire into the matter.
The doctors and para-medical staff on the assurance of the Minister called off their strike and assured him of their full support for bringing the health sector on the new horizons to serve the people still better.
Sharma went round all the units of the hospital and took stock of the damaged infrastructure. He instructed Director Health Services Kashmir and Superintending Engineer R&B Kashmir to immediately restore the operation theater, labour room and other wards for providing early succour to the patients and called upon the doctors and para-medicos to work with commitment and dedication in the interest of patient care.
Speaking on the occasion, MLA Hazratbal . Mohammad Sayed Akhoon demanded that the persons who are involved in assaulting the doctors and damaging infrastructure in the hospital should be arrested and action be initiated against them. He said JLNM hospital is one of the best hospitals of our state providing best medicare to the people. He also demanded adequate security arrangements for the hospital.
