| Azad likely to divest portfolios of some Cong ministers | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar September 4:-In the face of restrained criticism from the PDP leadership over the sudden decision of Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad,on divesting Qazi Mohd.Afzal of Forest portfolio, the Chief Minister is said to be toying with the idea of divesting some Congress ministers of additional portfolios. In this connection Taj Mohiuddin,Minister for consumer Affairs and Food supplies, may also be divested atleast one portfolio.Reports said that the Chief Minister has received secret reports about corrupt practices of some more ministers who may either be dropped,in case of a reshuffle,or divested of important portfolios. The Chief Minister’s plan of reorganizing the Pradesh Congress Committee has not been so far okayed by the Congress High Command which continues to support Peerzada Mohd.Syed. Azad is said to have conveyed to the AICC Chief that he wanted a person to devote full time as PCC Chief because Syed remained preoccupied as Minister for Education. The Chief Minister also conveyed to the party high command that the entire party activities were being looked after by him which had placed additional responsibilities on the shoulder of Azad. Azad is in favour of going to the polls with a new PCC leadership that could take care of the organizational activities till the poll the schedule was announced. He wants those faces to be inducted in the organization who could strengthen the party’s mass contact programme by selling the achievements of the Congress led Government in Jammu and Kashmir. What worried the Chief Minister is the way Peerzada Mohd.Syed as become almost a deadwood in the organization thereby not able to organize public meetings, workers conventions and other activities. This task was being done by the party vice-president, Abdul Gani Vakil, though on a limited scale. Another worry for the Chief Minister is that the National Conference and the PDP have already started what is called pre-poll campaign and in the face of poor organizational capacities on the part of those who occupy key posts in the PCC the Congress lagged behind. It is not yet known whether the Congress high command would accept Azad’s suggestion on PCC reorganization or not .
