| More than 100 fall ill on consuming contaminated Prashad | | | Early Times Reporter Akhnoor | Sept 4 More than a hundred persons, including women and children, were taken ill after consuming Prasad from a temple on the eve of Janamashtami, here this evening. Reports reaching here revealed that people in large number assembled at Shiv Temple at Gad village on the outskirts of Akhnoor town, this evening. Prasad were distributed among the devotees on the completion of prayers in the temple, sources said adding when people returned home they fell ill. Some of the devotees, sources said, complained of vomiting and severe abdomen pain outside the temple and were shifted to sub-district hospital Akhnoor. However, within no time the number swelled considerably and every one who consumed the Prasad was brought to the hospital. A doctor on duty, Dr Suman Kant told NAK that more than one hundred people were brought to the hospital complaining abdomen pain and vomiting. The victims, he said, included women and children. However, sources said that about one dozen people have been admitted in the hospital, while others were discharged after they were given first aid. "Most of them are stable now", Dr Kant said adding, "Others who have been admitted in the hospital were being treated". Police said that it has registered a case and started investigation as how this contaminated Prasad was distributed among the devotees.
