Jammu|Sep4: It may sound unbelievable, but it is a fact that state Estate department apprehend 'antinational and antisocial elements' occupying some of the government quarters which it expressed through a notice issued to some Migrant families asking them to furnish their credentials in its office within a weeks time from the date of receipt of the notification.
The notice issued conclusively mentions that the department has reports that "some quarters are being misused by antinational/ antisocial elements" as it does not have the details of the persons by whom the quarters are being used.
Some ninety families, all of them Kashmiri Pandits residing in Estate department quarters have been served the notice.
However contrary to the apprehensions expressed in the initial paras of the notice, it further reads that the department requires the credentials and identity of the persons occupying the quarters to submit the same before the Supreme Court 'with regard to framing of the policy for the rehabilitation of Kashmiri Migrants.
While the departmental notice says that these migrant families are reluctant to disclose their identity, those who have been served with notice said that all their records are lying not only with the Estate department but also with Relief Commissioner Office and the concerned Police stations.
They described the notice served to them as another attempt to harass the community. "How can it be possible that the department will not have the details about the identity of people who have been living in the quarters for last two decades"? Questions Moti Lal, one of the recipients of notice, residing in Government quarters Toph Sherkhanian, He said what hurt the people most is that the department has openly labeled them as antinational and antisocial elements.
Ravi Kachroo, another inmate of the colony says that these are the tactics used by government to harass them. We are a peace loving community and never indulge in anti national or anti social activities. All the records about the migrants occupying government accommodation are lying with the estates department and they have been verifying it on frequent basis since 1990.
"By one way or the other the government has been harassing us. In he scorching heat of summer they snapped electricity and water supply to entire colony for three consecutive days exposing the inmates to all sorts of trouble. Now they have dubbed us as anti national and anti social elements which is very shocking" said Shiban Krishen Bhat, a resident of Toph Quarters.
Rattan Lal Raina, said, "We are fed up now as every time allegation of one type or the other being leveled against us in order to harass the community members. We have always been demanding the government to rehabilitate us at the places of our birth but the incapable successive governments have failed in this regard."
