Not ready to join back, party will decide

Jammu, Sept 5: A day after the Chief Minister relented from his stand
rejecting the resignation of Housing and Urban Development Minister
Qazi Mohammad Afzal also promising to return his Forest portfolio in
due course of time, the controversial Minister today replied the
letter with obvious remarks that issue will now be decided at the
party level.
Amidst a game of mudslinging, the Peoples Democratic Party has almost
blown up the Qazi Afzal issue in a full blown controversy even as the
Chief Minister had relented from his stand by rejecting resignation of
the Minister. Sources close to Qazi told EARLY TIMES that the minister
was keen to continue but his party was pressuring him to stand by
resignation.
Interestingly, instead of rejoining his office today, Qazi wrote a
letter to the Chief Minister wherein he thanked him for the trust
reposed in him but said that the final decision shall be taken by his
party high command.
"We all are bound by the party discipline. Hence, the right course be
that the issue be sort out through the appropriate channel and at
appropriate level", Qazi said in his letter. "However, the
orchestrated media campaign, fueled by some vested interests, continue
to target my public reputation as also that my predecessor Tariq
Hameed Karra. Obviously, there is a sinister design behind all this
issue which cannot be allowed to go un-replied", the letter said.
Qazi said that he has stood firm against "manipulation by highly
influential Delhi based business group for setting up a housing colony
over forest land at Jammu in gross violation of the prescribing norms,
judicial directions and ecological considerations".
Meanwhile Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, who was briefly in Jammu
today to attend Teachers' day function refused to comment on the issue
while the Health Minister Mangat Ram Sharma said that the Peoples
Democratic Party was playing a dirty politics.
Mangat Ram told media persons that the Forest Minister Qazi Mohd Afzal
had himself apprised Chief Minister that certain senior officials in
his department were bypassing him and CM had assured him that he would
take over the charge of the ministry to clean the mess. Now when Chief
Minister divested him of the portfolio the PDP leadership is creating
noises and even asked their minister to submit his resignation. The
health Minister taking a dig at the PDP leadership said that they are
unnecessarily creating a controversy over the issue adding that Chief
Minister by not accepting the resignation letter of the forest
Minister has made it clear that he is satisfied with his working and
does not hold any grudges against him.
