| Teachers observe their day as ‘Black Day’ | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu Sept 5- Contractual Lecturers of Jammu Province and other teaching community including United State Teachers Association Reasi today observed Teachers’ Day as ‘black day’ in protest against the indifferent attitude of the government towards their long pending legitimate demands. The Jammu and Kashmir Contractual Lecturers Association has criticized the government of its failure in implementing the interim directions of the High Court in various petitions and said that there cannot be two different rules for College lecturers and that of 10+2 lecturers. In a handout the Association said that the contractual appointees who perform the same duty as regular appointee but are paid much less that their counterparts and is accordingly demanding equal pay for equal work. According to the reports Teachers across Reasi staged a protest demonstration on the eve of Teachers’ Day and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner listing certain demands. The demands put forth include creation of the post of CEO for newly created district, grant of higher start and advance increments in favour of graduate/post graduate teachers, masters, implementation of SRO 225 of August 2006 with monetary benefits with effect from January 1996, enhancement of wages to Rs.4000 PM for ReTs, grant of interim relief till implementation of 6th Pay Commission recommendations , filling up of vacant posts of teachers, masters, lecturers and principals besides introduction of transparent transfer policy in the education department.
