| DEC recognizes all distance courses of SMU | | | Bangalore | Sep 6 The Distance Education Council (DEC) has granted recognition and endorsement to all distance education programs offered by Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences (SMU). This recognition covers all SMU’s distance programs including Graduate. Post Graduate, Diploma, Post Graduate Diploma and Certificate programs. Pro. Vice Chancellor of the University Brig (Dr) R.S. Grewal said “This recognition is also on a post facto basis and covers all students who have passed and those who are presently pursuing SMU’s programs on the distance mode”. He further added that “the SMU distance education programs are designed and structure to provide flexibility and convenience and delivered in an innovative manner. The key features of the Programs are its industry focused courses and curriculum and use of technology like VSAT to broadcast the lectures to its students through its network of authorized Learning Centres across India.” As per press hand out SMU currently offers over 40 distance Education progams across 10 disciplines and has over 10,000 students. With DEC’s approval, the qualifications awarded through the distance educations programs stand automatically recognized for employment and promotions in Central Government services and organization. The Sikkim Manipal University of Health, Medical and Technological Sciences, Gangtok was incorporated under the State Legislative Act (Act IX of 1995) of the Government of Sikkim with the objective of offering High Quality Value based, career oriented education to students and working professionals
