| JPVM warns against scuttling move to set up amusement park at Sidhra | | | Jammu | Sep 7: Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal (JPVM) has warned against scuttling the move to set up amusement park at Sidhra on the outskirts of Jammu city, aimed at creating a place of tourist attraction in Jammu, under the pretext of preserving the forest cover and environment protection. A meting of the Jammu Prayatan Vikas Mandal held here today under the Chairmanship of Ravi Mahajan observed that the proposed amusement park at Sidhra should not be made the scapegoat and subject of political battle between the two major coalition partners in the government. The objection to setting up of a place of tourism attraction in Jammu by some Kashmir centric politicians betrays their anti- Jammu stance and is the part of their design to rob Jammu of tourism attraction. Appreciating the efforts of Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in bringing beauty spots in Jammu on the tourist map of the country by undertaking some projects for promotion of tourism in this region, particularly in Jammu city and around it, to off set the adverse affect on the importance of winter capital city of the state, after the train reaches Katra and eventually Kashmir valley, the Mandal has observed that some Kashmir centric and anti -Jammu elements, among the politicians and the state administration, are always out to create bottlenecks in the way of developing Jammu from tourism point of view. If there could be no objection from these quarters to developing of Tulip Park as well as the golf course on the outskirts of Srinagar city converting vast track of forest land, there should be no objection to the setting up of amusement park in Jammu, covering forest land. Inderjeet Khajuria, a retired forest officer and General Secretary of JPVM, said that under the J&K Forest Conservation Act of 1989 any forest land can be brought under any use other than for setting up forest nurseries, after due permission from the government of India. In this case also it is hoped that the desired sanction has been obtained and all the norms to protect the environment and ecology have been observed, he added. Expressing their solidarity with the transporters, who had held demonstration, blocking the road on September 6, to lodge their protest against their harassment by the police and demanding bribe from them at the nakas, Khajuria told the meeting that a deputation of JPVM, who had called on the Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad on June 11 this year was assured that the police nakas at Wazarat Road, Vivekananda Chowk, Chowk near Central Jail as well as all other unwanted nakas will be lifted, to avoid inconvenience to the commuters and the motorists, particularly the visitors coming to Jammu from outside. But unfortunately nothing of the sort had been done so far, although the then Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Parmodh Jain who was also present there, was told by the Chief Minister to look into the matter and see that this bottleneck is removed. The meeting observed that under the pretext of the security, these nakas have been put up by the police only to harass the transporters including the minibus and auto rickshaw operators to extort money from them. It demanded that all these nakas should be lifted, for the smooth flow of traffic and in the interest of promoting tourism in the city. Besides, Ravi Mahajan and Inderjeet Khajuria the meeting was attended by Kuldeep Wahi President of the Mandal, Anil Gohar, Baldeev Khullar and Ashwani Sharma.
