| PDP toughens stand, asks Azad to recall Qazi | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar | Sep 7:-The PDP leadership has decided that Qazi Mohd.Afzal, who submitted his resignation from the cabinet in protest against the way he was divested of the forest portfolio by the Chief Minister,Ghulam Nabi Azad, would rejoin the cabinet only when the forest portfolio was restored to him. General secretary of the PDP,Mr Nizam-ud-Din Bhat, said today “the forest portfolio should be given back to the Qazi after the Chief Minister,in his letter to the Minister, had stated that he had not received any complaint against him (Qazi).”Mr Bhat said “in addition to this the Chief Minister should discuss the controversy over divesting Qazi Mohd.Afzal,of forest portfolio and other issues that have strained the relations between the PDP and the Congress with Ms Mehbooba Mufti, chief of the PDP.” He said “propriety demands that the Chief Minister restored the portfolio back to Qazi Mohd.Afzal and discuss the issue with the PDP Chief.”In reply to a question he said “now the survival of the coalition Government depends on the response the PDP leadersip receives from the chief Minister as far as its stand on the controversy is concerned.”He made it clear that “in the interest of the survival of the coalition Government the Congress and the PDP have to keep the process of mutual consultations in tact.” Bhat said that the Chief Minister had the perogative to allot or change a minister’s portfolio but in a coalition Government the Chief Minister was bound by coalition Dharma which no sides can afford to violate.
