| 25th death anniversary of Sheikh Abdullah observed | | Floral tributes paid to the founder of NC | | Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 8: Floral tributes were paid to late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah, ex Chief Minister and founder of National Conference, on his 25th death anniversary being observed across the state today. Several functions marked the observance of the death anniversary where speakers highlighted various aspects of late leader’s life and his contribution in strengthening the democratic fabric in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a function organized to observe the death anniversary at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan, and attended by hundreds of NC workers, the Provincial President of the Party Ajay Sadhotra described the late Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah as the tallest leader of state. Paying homage to Abdullah, Sadhotra said that Sher-e-Kashmir was a survivor of the down trodden masses of the state, who dedicated his entire life in the service of the masses and for their emancipation from the shackles of feudal-cum-autocratic system. He said that Sheikh Abdullah the founder of the NC symbolized the Jammu and Kashmir's golden traditions of secularism, democracy and also the aspirations of the people. He said it was he (Sheikh) who in 1948 formulated an Act by virtue of which the land owned by landlords was transferred to its tillers. "The revolutionary steps taken by Sheikh Abdullah have transformed the state and history speaks itself about the impact of pro-people policies adopted by the NC government during his stewardship", he said. He emphasized the need of following the foot steps of Sher-e-Kashmir in order to serve people in a better way and called upon the party workers to propagate the slogan of ‘Sher-e Kashmir Ka Kya Irshad ‘Hindu, Muslim, Sikh Ithad" in order to inculcate sprit of oneness, which is need of the hour today. The day started with Quran-Khawani and fruit distribution at Vridh Ashram and Mother Teresa Center. Later party workers from different blocks of District Jammu Urban led by its District President Chander Mohan Sharma, chanting slogan of Hindu, Muslim Sikh Ithad assembled at party headquarters in shape of rally named "SADHBHAWANA RALLY" to pay homage to the great astute visionary who always worked for the welfare of the masses and had envisaged dream for peace, progress and Khushali for the people of the state. Women workers in large number, led by Provincial President Women Wing Bimla Luthra, also took out an impressive rally, which passed through different bazaars of Jammu city and reached party headquarters to pay tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir. Youth National Conference workers led by Surinder Singh Bunty organized a rally on the occasion which after passing through various bazaars of Jammu city culminated at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan. Meanwhile, the district level party organizations also observed the anniversary at their respective District headquarters. In Kishtwar, party rank and file led by Member Legislative Assembly Kishtwar, Sajjad Ahmed Kichloo paying rich tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah said that Sheikh dedicated his entire life to the service of the poor people He said the real tribute to this great leader is to follow the path shown by him. At Ramban-Banihal a large number of party workers, office bearers and prominent persons paid tributes also paid tributes to the late leader.District President Ramban-Banihal,Anila Shaheen while paying tributes said Sheikh was a towering personality not only in the state but at the national level too. It was he who led the people in rejecting the two nation theory and acceded to India. She termed the later leader as the 'mesiah' of the poor who always worked for the uplift of the oppressed class. A similar function was held at Doda which was presided over by Khalid Najeeb Suhrawardhy. Paying tributes to the late leader, Suharwardhy described him as a great leader and a social reformer. He said that Sheikh Abdullah had placed before the people a radical Naya Kashmir program aiming at bringing radical changes in the social, economical and political life of every person. Rich floral tributes were paid to the leader by the District Committee Kathua at a function held at District headquarters under the chairmanship of Ajit Kumar party’s district president.
