| Grant of separate statehood to Jammu region imperative, says Gupta | | ‘Islamic terrorism a great threat to country’, JSM | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 8 Expressing grave concern and anguish over the growing menace of terrorism, particularly the Islamic terrorism, that is not only limited to Jammu and Kashmir but has spread its tentacles across the country, the Jammu State Morcha (JSM) Progressive has asked the Centre to shed its soft policy towards terrorism. Addressing a press conference here today, the Morcha President Virender Gupta said that those indulging in subversive activities should not be allowed to take protection under human rights rather should be dealt with sternly. He called for enforcing stringent laws to deal with the situation as the existing laws are ineffective and insufficient to meet the menace of growing terrorism. He said that in Jammu and Kashmir during the past two years 4572 militancy related cases were registered and of these 1535 persons were challenged for subversive activities but regretted that only 13 could be convicted and called for enforcing stringent laws to deal with the growing terrorism .’The Government must make it clear to all the concerned that security of the country is non-negotiable and can not be compromised at any cost’, he observed. The Morcha President also strongly condemned the Kashmiri leaders who participated in the meeting of Working Group on strengthening Centre-State relations, for their dictatorial, parochial and anti-Jammu people stand. ‘The proposals of self rule or greater autonomy are Kashmir centric and communally biased proposals’, he added.. These demands are against the aspirations of the people of Jammu region and are not acceptable to the Jammuties at any cost, he maintained. The Morcha also took strong exception to the presence of Wajahat Hazibullah in the WG meeting and said that his suggestion for creating two councils in Jammu region and one in Kashmir has a communal bias and are politically motivated. While appreciating the role of leaders representing Jammu region in the WG, the Morcha President said the viable alternative for resolution of Kashmir tangle is grant of separate statehood for Jammu region. However the Morcha was critical of the role of BJP in the WG meeting and observed that BJP’s proposal of provincial councils invested with legislative and financial powers is confusing and does not convince Jammuties. On this occasion several people including Surinder Kour (Advocate), Madan Lal Gupta (Rtd. ETO), Rashpal Batti, Ramgarh, Rakesh Kumar, Rangarh, Capt. Ram Parkash Verma, Subash Nagar, Bansi Lal Digra, (Retd. Ranger), Kabir Colony, Talab Tilo, Darshan Kumar Gupta, Talab Tilo, Balbir Singh, Youth Leader, Vinod Kumar, Youth leader and Jyoti Arora, from col. Colony, Talab Tilo joined the Morcha..
