| Tributes to Sheikh on death anniversary | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep8: Twenty fifth death anniversary of former Chief Minister and National Conference patriarch Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah was today observed with reverence. Governor Lt. Gen. (Retd) S. K. Sinha also paid rich tributes to Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah describing him as visionary who strove peace and amity between various communities all his life.
In a message on his death anniversary, the Governor said that Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah upheld the high values of secularism and composite culture of the state at the time of partition when communal frenzy had engulfed the sub-continent, under his dynamic leadership, the people of Jammu and Kashmir gave a befitting reply to tribal raid in 1947. The Contribution of Sheikh Sahib in building Naya Kashmir has been immense, he s aid and referred to his pioneering role in introducing land reforms. The Governor said that Sheikh Sahib was the tallest leader of Kashmir who inspired and guided the people of Jammu and Kashmir and lead them to an era of democracy and social justice. Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad visited the mausoleum of former Chief Minister Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah at Naseem Bagh here this morning and paid floral tributes to the late leader on his 25th death anniversary. The Chief Minister also offered fateha at the mazar. Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, Mehboob Iqbal and IGP Kashmir, S. M. Sahai were also present on the occasion. Meanwhile in Jammu, a solemn ceremony was held at Sher-e-kashmir Bhawan, residency road Jammu under the presidentship of Ajay Sadhotra to observe the 25 th death Anniversary of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, the tallest leader of state politics. Paying homage to Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, Party's Jammu Provincial President, Ajay Sadhotra said that Sher-e-Kashmir was a survivor of the down trodden masses of the state, who dedicated his entire life in the service of the masses and for their emancipation firm the shackles of feudal-cum-autocratic system that had reduced then to object serfdom and misery. Sadhotra said that National Conference founder symbolized the Jammu and Kashmir's golden traditions of secularism, democracy and also the aspirations of the people. He said it was Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah who in 1948 formulated an act by virtue of which the land owned by landlords was transferred to its tillers. "The revolutionary steps taken by Sheikh Sahib have transformed the state and history speaks itself about the impact of pro-people policies adopted by the NC government during his stewardship", he said. He emphasized the need of following the foot steps of Sher-e-Kashmir in order to serve people in a better way and called upon the party workers to propagate the slogan of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah ("Sher-e-Kashmir Ka Kya Irshad Hindu, Muslim, Sikh Ithad") in order to inculcate sprit of oneness, which is need of the hour today. The day started with Quran-Khawani and fruit distribution at Vridh Ashram and Mother Teresa Center. Later Party workers from different blocks of District Jammu Urban led by its District President Chander Mohan Sharma, chanting slogan of Hindu, Muslim Sikh Ithad assembled at party headquarters in shape of rally named "SADHBHAWANA RALLY" to pay homage to the great astute visionary who always worked for the welfare of the masses and had envisaged dream for peace progress and Khush-hali for the people of the state.
Women workers in large number, led by Provincial President Women Wing Bimla Luthra, also took out an impressive rally, which passes through different bazaars of Jammu city and reached party headquarters to pay tributes to Sher-e-Kashmir. Youth National Conference workers led by Surinder Singh Bunty organized a rally on the occasion which after passing through various bazaars of Jammu city culminated at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhawan.
