| NC demands judicial probe in JU affairs | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu, Sept 8: The controversy hovering over the Jammu University took a political turn today with the senior National Conference leader and provincial president Ajay Sadhotra accusing the Vice Chancellor of furthering his political agenda by using the institution as a platform. Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah's death anniversary, Sadhotra criticized the Congress led coalition government for its failure to bring transparency in the administration, and demanded a high level probe, by a sitting High Court Judge, in the affairs of Jammu University. "There is large scale misappropriation of funds, while the financial and statutory powers are being misused by the authorities", Sadhotra said. He added, "The situation is alarming as the affairs of the University is not only giving bad name to the premier educational institution of the state but it is also severely affecting the students' community". Expressing dismay over the performance of the University during last four years, Sadhotra said, "It seems someone else is running the affairs and the Vice Chancellor is being used politically". "The hullabaloo being raised over the academic excellence is also a hollow claim", he said adding, "The authorities at the helm of affairs were busy in shining their own political carrier and less attention was being paid in the academic field". Urging Governor, who is also chancellor of the university, to intervene, the NC leader demanding a high level probe by a sitting HC Judge in the affairs of the University. Commenting over the functioning of the state government, Mr. Sadhotra said that the coalition alliance owes explanation to the people of the state over the recent drama between the PDP and Congress as it reflect the weakness of the Chief Minister and also signifies that he is running the state affairs at the behest of New Delhi. "Instable government and friction among alliance directly impacts development and administrative work in the state", he said adding, "The leg pulling between the two alliance partners is going on from last five years and it is one of the reason that the government has failed to mitigate the sufferings of the general masses". The so called tall slogan of double shift and work culture is no where on the ground and a common man is being misled by these hollow and hoax slogans, he said.
