| PDP all set to open new fronts to confront Azad | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 9 After opening the second front of confrontation with the Congress, over the premature recall of J&K Governor, General (Rtd) S K Sinha and to replace him by a person acceptable to the PDP, the latter is all set to open a third front, dragging the controversy going on in Jammu University, in the intra party feud. Some PDP leaders in Jammu are reported to have established contact with the aggrieved JU Professor Rekha Choudhary, who has been removed as the head of Political Science Department of the University, as a sequel to her campaign against the Vice Chancellor, Amitabh Mattoo, after the latter ordered an enquiry into the role of Rekha Choudhary in the alleged biased survey conducted by Indian Express, Dawn of Pakistan, IBNN, with the help of Political Science Department of JU. The PDP leaders from Jammu, who are acting in this behalf on the biding of party President Mehbooba Mufti, are reported to have advised Prof. Choudhary to carry on her war to the logical end and that Mufti Mohammad Sayeed as well as Mehbooba Mufti will be on her back. The PDP's game plan has been to bring the Chancellor of the University, Governor S K Sinha with whom they have their own scores to settle as well as the pro Chancellor, Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad in the controversies galore in the University. However, since the administration and academic affairs of the University are the exclusive domains of the Vice Chancellor, in which the Chancellor and the pro chancellor are not suppose to interfere, the sources believe that the attempts to drag in the Governor or the Chief Minister has hardly any chance of success. Further Amitabh Mattoo is believed to be quite close to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and is believed to have been appointed Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, on his recommendation. Mr. Mattoo is also believed to be related to Dr. Manmohan Singh. In the meanwhile the sources claim that the reports about the change of J&K Governor, before the completion of the present term of S K Sinha, in June 2008, are only kite flying and given circulation by a section of media close to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, Mufti Sayeed as well as his daughter have their personal scores to settle with General Sinha on account of the latter publicly opposing and ridiculing the PDP demand for demilitarization or cut of troops in Jammu and Kashmir. Mehbooba Mufti has in the past taken exception to the Governor of the state interfering and giving his opinion on the political matters. In fact the hostility between Governor Sinha and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed goes back to the time when Mufti Sayeed as Chief Minister of the State had raised objection to the decision of Shri Amarnath Shrine Board to extend the period of Hindu yatra to two months. The Governor, as ex-officio Chairman of the SASB, ruling out all the objections, on the plea of security concern and environment pollution to be caused by prolonging the yatra and encouraging much larger number of pilgrims to the same, had his way, causing embarrassment to the then Chief Minister. General Sinha, in turn had developed such a dislike for Mufti Sayeed that soon after the change of J&K Chief Ministership from Mufti to Azad, General Sinha could not resist displaying his jubilation over Mufti's discomfort. He told a Jammu businessman who was one of the leaders of Amarnath Yatra Action Committee, which spearheaded the movement for extension of the yatra period as proposed by the SASB and against the then Chief Minister's obstructionist moves that since Mufti was opposed to the promotion of a religious cause, God has punished him. In the light of this background the removal of General Sinha prematurely as Governor of the state and bringing some separatist friendly person to the post, as demanded by Muftis will adversely affect the prospects of Congress in the state as well as in the centre, in the next elections. The BJP and other pro Hindu organizations, who are all out to use any handle to beat the Congress with, to regain their falling stocks, will exploit the matter, characterizing the same as yet another attempt by the Congress led UPA government to appease the minority Muslims and placate the separatist, at the cost of a staunch nationalist and Hindu religious minded Governor, Gen. Sinha
