| Sports suffering due to lack of coaches: JSSM | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep 9 Alleging callous attitude of the authorities, Jammu State Students’ Morcha (JSSM) today said it was highly deplorable that despite large number of posts of coaches lying vacant, those qualified for the jobs are not being appointed. Addressing a press conference, here today, JSSM State general secretary Parimoksh Seth said that the present government has failed to provide jobs in every field to unemployed educated youth of the state while it is making tall claims that it is doing its best to provide sports facilities to the youth of the sate. He said even the chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad had made the statement regarding the promotion of sports in state during the final of All J&K Police Martyrs Memorial Football Tournament, but the govt, in practice, has failed to provide even the basic facilities to the sportsmen in the state. Badminton coach, Vikram Singh, speaking on the occasion, said that there are ten districts in Jammu province where more than 20 games are played. But there are only 37 coaches catering to the four districts only while at other districts various sports are suffering due to non availability of coaches. He added that there is a large number of youth having qualified as coaches with NIS and B.P.ed degrees but they are not being appointed against the vacant posts. Authorities have granted rupees five thousand crore to the state but only 100 crore has been spent, sated Mousmee Verma, Basketball coach. She futher said that on one side the sports grant has been increased from 2.5 crore to 4.5 crore while on the appointment front the statement of the sports minister was that there is no fun to appoint coaches since there is shortage of funds in the department. JSSM requested the chief minister and sports minister to immediately look into the matter and provide jobs to the coach. Ravish Vaid, Dhanraj Singh, Gourav Sharma and Harvinder Singh was also preseted on the occasion.
