| 4 militants killed in Machil area near LoC | | | Early Times Reporter
Srinagar|Sep 09 : Police and army claimed to have gunned down four unidentified militants in frontier district of Kupwara in North Kashmir, here this morning, official sources said.
An official spokesman quoting Senior Superintendent of Police Kupwara Vijay Kumar told News Agency of Kashmir that Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police received a specific input that a group of militant has sneaked into this side of border and was hiding at Muthal Nar in Machil area near Line of Control.
Based on the inputs, SOG and SOG and 7 Gadwal launched a joint operation during the wee hours.
"When the troops were cordoning off the area, militants opened indiscriminate fire in an attempt to flee from the area", he said adding, in the ensuing gun battle, which lasted for more than three hours, four militants were gunned down.
Police said that the identification of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained. Some arms and ammunition were also recovered from their possession.
