Jammu|Sep 10: The high rise water reservoirs of Baglihar project which have repeatedly been brought to the notice of government and Doda district administration today took claimed three lives near Assar.
Three school children drowned after a boat capsized on the river Chenab in Doda district this morning, police said. They are feared dead on the gruesome tragedy. The school students identified as Anchal Singh son of Hardev Singh, Bisha Devi daughter of Hardev Singh and Asha Devi daughter of Chain Singh all resident of Sairaj, Doda and students of Government High School Jathi were crossing the nallah this morning when the incident took place as per reports received here.

Since a link bridge over the river had sunk owing to the high rise in water due to construction of Baglihar hydro-electric project, the local people had been using unsafe boats to cross over.
A boat carrying six persons, including four school children, was crossing river Chenab at Assar area in Doda district when it capsized after losing balance around 0830 AM, they said.
"Some people, who witnessed the accident, informed the nearby army unit," they said, adding two persons were saved while one body was fished out in a joint rescue operation by the army and the police. Efforts were on to fish out the other three bodies, they said.
Angry over the incident, local people blocked the Doda-Batote road alleging that the chief minister and the district administration were informed about the problem as the link bridge over the river had sunk following the increase in water-level after construction of Baglihar hydro-electric power project dam at Chanderkote in Ramban district.
Meanwhile, Minister for Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed has expressed deep grief over the death of three school children of Doda, washed away by dam water. Sayeed also expressed sympathy with the bereaved families.
