| Mehbooba wants more women in police | | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar|Sep 10: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti today demanded for enhancement in women recruitment in Jammu and Kashmir Police. Mufti was addressing UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi at 'women's meet' organized by State Social Welfare Board at SKICC. Mufti observed that she had requested union home minister Shivraj Patil for additional recruitment of women in state police so that they could handle the increasing crime rate against women, effectively. Ms Mufti added that unfortunately the state for the last few years has witnessed an increase in crime rate against women which could be dealt with only by increasing the number of women police. She added that Ms Gandhi has been herself a victim who lost her husband and no one other than Ms Gandhi can understand the suffering and pain inflicted due to the incident better. Ms Mufti observed that a large number of women in Jammu and Kashmir were hit directly or indirectly due to the turmoil and their sufferings need to be mitigated as soon as possible. She also thanked UPA chairperson Ms Sonia Gandhi for she had extended her full cooperation for PDP's healing touch policy, disaster management during the massive earthquake which struck valley in 2005 and smooth running of coalition government.
