Jugal inaugurates Tourism Dormitory at village Meer

Udhampur| Sep 10 :- Over 50,000 people from within and outside the district thronged Sankri Devta temple site situated on a scenic hill top in block Panchari of district Udhampur to satiate their spiritual aspirations during 3-day annual fair which concluded yesterday evening at village Meer.
Minister for Rural Development, Jugal Kishore Sharma was the chief guest on the concluding day who besides inspecting stalls of different government departments at mela site, witnessed cultural and sports activities organized at the mela.
Earlier, the Minister also inaugurated a Tourism Dormitory at the mela site constructed by the J&K Tourism Department at a cost of Rs.24 lakh for the convenience of visiting tourist.
Speaking on the occasion, Jugal Kishore Sharma said that with the inauguration of dormitory at Sankri Devta temple site for tourists, a long felt demand of the people of Panchari block has been fulfilled which would certainly help in promoting tourists flow to the scenic spot. He said in Bhamag area there is immense scope to boost tourism as the places like Panchari, Sankri Devta, Shankhpal, Pangan Devta at Baspat, Shiv-Parvati Cave Shrine at Moungri, Khour Gali and Lalli Dabber at Lalli village have the scenic splendor to attract tourists, especially for trekking expeditions.
To a querry of developing tourist infrastructure in Panchari block and Bhumag area as a whole, Mr. Jugal said that coalition government under the dynamic and committed leadership of Ghulam Nabi Azad is making rapid strides in creating tourist circuits in the area by linking Panchari with Sanasar and Patnitop with the construction of a road link from Sanasar.
For construction of a tourism complex at Panchari, efforts are on to identify suitable land for its construction, the Minister asserted. Under Rural Tourism Scheme, project of Rs.70 lakh has for giving Meer-Panchari region a facelift already been sent to Govt. of India for approval. Village Meer which would also create more avenues of employment for locals and bring about socio-economic transformation in the region, the Minister maintained.
Director Tourism in his address said that there are 12 beds in the newly constructed dormitory at Sankri temple site with bath-room, toilet and kitchen facilities. The visitors who intend to stay here for a night would be charged Rs.20 per bed per night and Rs.10 only per bed for students. A Tourist hut with 3- bed room capacity and a Youth hostel having 30 beds capacity at Moungri have already been inaugurated for the visitors. An international level trekking expedition in Bhumag area will also start from September 14, 2007, he added.
A skit titled “ Raja-Wazir” presented by Charan Dass Magotra and party of Sab Rang Samooh, Housing Colony, Udhampur potraying dynastic rule and satire on social evils was the main attraction compelling the audience to burst into laughter. Kud dance of Khem Raj and party of Panjar (Bhamag), Bhajans and Dogri folk song by Prithvi Raj and party of Ramban and ‘Ka Ka’ presentation by Romelo Ram and party of Ramnagar was also highly appreciated.
Free Langers by the social organizations of Udhampur at Sankri and base camp Meer and Panchari witnessed long queues of people.
Director Tourism, Jammu, Ajay Khajuria, Additional SP Udhampur, Anil Magotra, Assistant Commissioner Development, R.C. Puri, Settlement Tehsildar, Kartar Singh (Mela Officer), BDO Panchari, B.L. Sharma, Udhampur Municipality Councilor, Brij Mohan Sharma were also present on the occasion.
