| SI among 4 injured in grenade blasts | | Militant killed, 2 jawans injured in Rajouri; Al Mansoorian claims responsibility | | EARLY TIMES REPORTER Jammu/Srinagar | Aug 14: One militant was killed and two jawans injured in a fierce gun battle which followed a militants’ on a patrol party of the security forces in Thanmandi area of district Rajouri, while three police personnel and a civilian were injured in a in two separate grenade explosions in Baramulla district of Jammu and Kashmir. Militant group Al Mansoorian has claimed the responsibility of the Rajouri attack. Official sources told News Agency of Kashmir, over phone from Rajouri, that a group of armed militants today ambushed a patrol party of the security forces near Radhani in Thanmandi tehsil of district Rajouri. The militants, sources said, opened indiscriminate firing on the troops wounding two army jawans. The fire was returned leading to a gun battle, which continued for more than two hours. Police said that one militant was killed on the spot and some arms and ammunition has been recovered from his possession. His identification was not ascertained immediately. It was learnt that a search operation in the area was still going on when the last report came in. A caller, who identified himself as Amir Mir spokesman of Al Mansoorian, owned the responsibility of the attack. The caller told News Agency of Kashmir that the militant killed in the attack was a Fidayeen of his organisation. “The attack was carried on the patrol party, which was led by a Commanding Officer”, he said adding, “Five army jawans were killed in the gun battle”. Meanwhile, a sub-inspector of police and two other personnel were wounded when militants hurled a grenade on Sunday night at a patrol in Baramulla town, 55 kms from Srinagar, officials said on Monday. A security patrol at Sopore bus stand in Baramulla was similarly attacked this afternoon, causing injuries to a bystander. In yet another incident, a security vehicle at Main Chowk Pattan, 27 kms from Srinagar, was attacked with a grenade on Sunday night, but no one was hurt, officials added.
