| Punjab lifts 53rd NSG Football Trophy | | Sports cultivate friendship; strengthen bonds of love: Azad | | Early Times Reporter Srinagar|Sep 10 Describing sportsmen as ambassadors of friendship and brotherhood, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad has underscored the importance of inculcating sportsman spirit in all fields of life to accomplish tasks and achieve goals with commitment. Speaking at the concluding function of 53rd National School Football Championship under-19 here this evening, Azad asked the participating players from outside the state to take the message of peace from Kashmir to their respective states. He said as ambassadors of Jammu and Kashmir, they should talk about the traditional hospitality, scenic beauty and the improvement in situation and persuade people to visit the state in large numbers. The Chief Minister said that national sports events inculcate discipline, commitment, zest for achieving the goals and above all developing long lasting friendship and brotherhood between sports persons of different regions and states. He also gave away trophies to the winner and runner-up teams and individual prizes to the organizers. Earlier, the final match of the championship was played between Punjab and Uttar Pradesh. The Punjab team outclassed Utter Pradesh by four goals to nil and won the championship. In all 26 teams from 23 states of the country participated in the 6-day long league-cum-knock-out championship in which 38 matches were played. The championship was organized by Jammu and Kashmir Youth Services and Sports Department under the aegis of School Games Federation of India. Minister of State for Sports Mr. Babu Singh, Minister of State for Industries and Commerce Dr. Romesh Chander Sharma, Secretary School Games Federation of India Mr. A K. Mishra, Commissioner Secretary Education Pramodh Jain, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Mr. Mehboob Iqbal, Director Youth Services and Sports Arvind Gupta and other officers of state administration were present on the occasion. Earlier, a composite cultural programme was presented by the students from all the three regions of the state.
