Soldier killed, another injured in Rajwar, LeT claims responsibility

Srinagar|Sep 10: Police and 30 RR claimed to have gunned down two militants in Sherhama, Mawar, while a soldier was killed and another injured in an encounter which broke out between militants and a joint party of Police and Army in Rajwar forest area of Handwara, here today.
Official spokesperson quoting Superintendent of Police Handwara Haseeb Mughal told News Agency of Kashmir that Handwara Police and 30 Rashtriya Riffles received a specific input about the presence of and were hiding at Sherhama, Mawar area of Handwara in North Kashmir.
"When the troops were cordoning off the area, militants opened indiscriminate fire in an attempt to flee from the area", he said adding, in the ensuing gun battle, which lasted for more than an hour, two militants were gunned down.
One AK Rifle and three magazines were recovered from the site of encounter; however, the identification of the slain militants was yet to be ascertained.
Meanwhile, an encounter broke out between militants and a joint Party of Handwara Police and 21RR in the forest area of Rajwar Handwara.
In the exchange of fire, a soldier of 21RR identified as Pawan Kumar was killed and another soldier was injured, official sources told News Agency of Kashmir.
Meanwhile, a caller identifying himself as Dr Gaznavi, spokesperson of LeT, told News Agency of Kashmir over phone that at around 9.30 am this morning, the cadre of his outfit in a joint action along with the Jesh and Al-Bader ambushed the security forces in Rajwar area of Kupwara.
He claimed that the caders attacked the security forces when they were going for a search operation. He said all the caders flee from the site of encounter and managed to inflict heavy causalities on the security forces.
