| SSRB pro rata formula hopeless for highly educated | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 10: The Pro- rata formula adopted by Service Selection Recruitment Board (SSRB) for filling up vacancies in the state government departments from past quite some years, has only created hopelessness among a vast number of highly educated youth of the state. This formula has been in practice from last some years for filling the non – Gazetted posts on state, divisional and district cadres in different departments. Under this formula the percentage matters more than the higher qualification. If a graduate aspirant applies for the post with high percentage, he has the better chance of getting selected than a post graduate or doctorate aspirant even having long experiences applying for same post. The lacunae in the recruitment system of SSRB can well be understood by the recent selection list of teachers on district level where the aspirants with 10+2 and graduates could make it to final list and at the same time the post graduates with MEd could not make to it for possessing low percentage. Ironically, instead of selecting the candidates on the basis of written test, the SSRB opts for pro-rata method. The formula is discouraging for highly qualified and those at the threshold of overage. The intelligence of a person could never be fathomed by percentage scored by him in the exam. A visibly depressing girl, Anita said, "I am Msc MEd and could not make it to final list because of the newly framed formula. Even graduates were selected and those with higher qualifications were dropped." "There should be a written test instead of this defective pro- rata formula while filling up the posts in various state departments. It has become very easy for fresh graduates to qualify under the prevailing method and almost impossible for the aged ones." said Vimal, MSc Physics. He further said that the freshers score more percentage as the education system has revolutionized during last some years providing then an opportunity qualify for any recruitment under SSRB." "I am surprised to see the method in practice in this state. The percentage system does not prevail anywhere in the country. There is no percentage system in civil service exams conducted by UPSC. Instead of the pro-rata system there should be a written exam for every aspirant without any consideration of percentage," said Sunita, BSc BEd.
