| Panthers Party roars in Congress fortress in Bani-Billawar | | | Early Times Reporter

The Panthers Party has started firing its first salvo against the Congress led Government in Jammu and Kashmir by organizing largely attended public rallies in Billawar,Mandli,Gurju Nagrota and Macheddi(in Bani constituency) during the last two days.
Initiating the anti-Congress campaign in these belts leader of Panthers Party in the Assembly,Harsh Dev Singh,and his party colleague,Yashpal Kundal MLA,made a pledge to people that the Panthers Party will fight against “prolonged oppression and repression” of the people of the Jammu region provided the electorate voted in favour of its candidates during the next election.
“After the successive state Governments,run by the congress,the National Conference and the PDP,failed to steer people away from the age-old sufferings the Panthers Party will do everything at its command to bring people out of depression,deprivation and maltreatment,”roared Harsh Dev Singh.
What seemed to have emboldened the Panthers Party leaders to fulminate against the coalition Government was the response they received from the people in areas where it had received very limited support from the electorate in 2002 Assembly poll.In that election the Panthers Party candidates had polled 0.98 per cent of the total votes polled in Bani constituency against 42.68 per cent polled by Prem Sagar Aziz of the Congress.In Billawar constituency the Panthers Party had polled 2.94 per cent votes against47.76 per cent by an independent candidate,Manohar Lal Sharma.However,the scene stood reversed when Harsh Dev and his party colleagues,including Shanti Swaroop Bhasotra and Jagdev entered these two constituencies.
People made not secret of their displeasure of those whom they had elected in 2002 to the Assembly and informed Harsh Dev Singh and Yashpal Kundal that their demand for providing basic amenities including drinking water had not been fulfilled by the elected representatives.”You have tried several parties but all of them failed to mitigate your sufferings.Now it is the turn for you to support the Panthers Party and if it is done we will fulfill our commitments,”said Harsh Dev Singh.He said that “Panthers Party has shown that it can work for the welfare of people whether it was in the Government or in the opposition.
