| CPI seeks close monitoring of IAY, NREGA | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu|Sep 11: The Communist Party of India Bhaderwah unit has urged upon government for close monitoring of National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme and Indira Awas Yojana so that the benefits percolate down to the deserving people. A team of CPI workers on receiving complaints about poor performance of Rural Development department visited various rural areas and found that deserving people are being denied the benefits of the ambitious schemes. It was found that floating the guide lines; work under NREGA is being given through middle men, thus diluting the very spirit of the scheme which aims at providing maximum benefit to the rural labourers. Similarly, in most of the areas it was found that the influential people are getting away with the assistance provided to house less families under IAY for constructing dwelling units. The practice is going on unabated in conveyance of the department officials and requires immediate attention of the higher authorities. The CPI has demanded a thorough inquiry into the matter.
