| Jammu region to host inter-regional KVs meet at Jalandhar | | |

Jammu | Sep 11 After completing the inter-Kendriya Vidyalaya Regional sports meet of Jammu region in the near month long sporting extravaganza in different Jammu based KVs, the Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) Jammu region is gearing up for the inter-Regional competitions schedule to take place between September 17 and September 18.
The KVS Regional office at Jammu has decided to conduct these competitions of hockey, basketball, handball, kho-kho, volleyball and kabaddi in girls section at different KVs at Jalandhar for two reasons.
“Firstly, it is because of reducing the distance for the competitors by brining them to a central place convenient to both the regions of Jammu and Chandigarh and secondly to extend an opportunity to other institutions having the required infrastructure to become host,” Officiating Assistant Commissioner of KVS Jammu Region, B D Sharma said
In boys section, KVS Chandigarh region is hosting the competitions in basketball, hockey, volleyball, handball, kabaddi and cricket (under-16 and under-19).
It is for the first time that the KVS has introduced inter-regional competitions with neighbouring regions so as to minimize the rush at the inter-regional national meet. “Introduced for the first time the competition between two neighbouring regions was aimed at brining down the number of competitors to nine as against 18 from as many regions of the country,” said the Assistant Commissioner.
He added that the new rule of competitions applies only for the team events whereas in individual events like chess, judo, lawn tennis and skating all the 18 regions will straight way participate in the national meet.
In girls section, the inter-regional competitions in hockey and basketball shall take place at KV-I Jalandhar while in handball, KV-4 shall be the host. The kho-kho and volleyball event shall be conducted at KV No.2 Jalandhar and kabaddi at KV-3, Jalandhar.
