Top HM commander Altaf Ahmed son of Gulam Ahmed Khan resident of Gounthal, Surankote, who is currently lodged in Akhnoor police station, is likely to be shifted to Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) here today.
According to sources, Altaf was shifted to police station Akhnoor from Surankote under tight security on Monday evening and during interrogation he confessed to have given the consignment to Nahida. He also confessed that after his release from the jail in March last after eight years, he rejoined the militant ranks again and was actively involved in militant activities.
Sources said he told police that he visited Jammu city many times with some militants and stayed in small hotels and after giving some consignments to Srinagar based militants, he returned back to Mendhar. The accused is also reported to have told his interrogators that on the directions from commanders, he delivered the consignment to the Law student as the outfit was planning to attack some vital places in Jammu city. He said that several militants were already present in the city of temples waiting for an opportunate time to strike in a big way. He also told the police the names of some more persons who are active in the militancy. The arrested militant further confessed that HM cadre had engaged many girls for delivering consignments to the ultras on money consideration as their (girls) credentials were undoubted and they easily manage to deliver the consignment to any part of the state. He also told police that many militants are hiding in many towns and cities of the state, who have specially assigned the task of causing attacks at public places. Sources further added that police is nearer to nab a commander and his arrest will be possible soon. Sources said three teams have already been rushed to Srinagar, Surankote, Udhampur and some other parts of the state for more arrests and today a special team was also dispatched outside the state to get more information.
Meanwhile, Nahida during today’s interrogation did not reveal any new thing to the police but agreed that he was in touch some militants who were active in Poonch district alone. However, she is reported to have given some clues about the militant hideouts in the city where the ultras have dumped arms and ammunition. On her disclosure the police took her to one of the hideouts and conducted a raid but nothing was recovered from the place. In the meantime the authorities have started collecting information about the students of the twin border districts of Poonch and Rajouri presently studying in Jammu to ascertain their involvement in the militancy as reports reveal that militants have lured several girls in the trade. .
