Ten bridges to be ready by April next: CM
Road connectivity in for major improvement in J&K

Srinagar|Sep 12 – The road connectivity in Jammu & Kashmir is in for major improvement with Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad fixing April 2008 as timeline for completion of ten important under-construction bridges, including seven in Kashmir Valley.
At a high level stocktaking meeting to review bridge construction in different parts of the State here Tuesday evening, Azad who has attached top priority to improving connectivity in the State, asked concerned officials to prioritize construction of bridges and focus on completion of the ones under construction so that people in respective areas get the much needed facility.
Minister for R&B, Gulchain Singh Charak, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Anil Goswami, Secretary, R&B, Shailendra Kumar, Secretary to Chief Minister, Dr. Pawan Kotwal and MD, JKPCC, Duleep Thusoo were present.
The Chief Minister asked for current status of various bridges being constructed by JKPCC on rivers, rivulets and streams in the two divisions and fixed time limit for their completion. He sanctioned money required by the project executing agency for completion of these bridges as per the targeted time.
According to the timelines fixed by the Chief Minister, the Ashai Bagh Bridge in Srinagar City would be completed by 15th October 2007. The nearby new Saida Kadal would be through a week earlier on 7 th October.
In Budgam district, the Arizal Bridge, important for tourism promotion in the area including the upcoming tourist destination of Dodhpathri, would be completed in March 2008 while the Chadoora Bridge would be ready by December this year. The construction of the Badran Bridge in the district would be completed in December 2007.
The Yarigund-Kawoosa Bridge at Narbal would be ready by October 2007 while the Baliharan Bridge on Srinagar-Baramulla road at Mirgund is scheduled to be ready in March 2008.
Besides, the Chief Minister asked JKPCC to complete the under-construction Chattergul Causeway in Ganderbal uby November this year.
The Chief Minister said he would shortly review construction of various bridges in Kupwara district and fix timelines for their early completion.
In Jammu division, the Chief Minister fixed March 2008 as target for completion of Narian Bridge in Nowshera, Rajouri and Chandimarh Dogrian Bridge on the Mughal Road and November 2007 for Paoat Bridge in Surankote, Poonch .
Azad also directed JKPCC to complete, on priority, the construction of Qasimnagar-Shamshan Ghat Road and said he would soon visit the site to take stock of the progress of work. He asked the corporation to speed up work on the construction of the Baghnala Bridge in Kathua district.
The Chief Minister asked JKPCC to take up construction of a bridge over the Chenab at Thathri connecting Prem Nagar in Doda district with Kadini in Kishtwar district.
Azad also took stock of construction of the Hajj House at Bemina and the Legislature Complex in Srinagar and impressed upon the projects executing agency to complete the two prestigious projects as per fixed timeline.
