| Jammu Bandh passes off peacefully | | | Early Times Reporter Jammu | Sep12 Echoing nationwide sentiments in protest against the government's proposal to make a waterway through the Palk Strait between India and Sri Lanka, Jammuites too came out in full support of the nationwide bandh call and observed peaceful chakka jam for three hours. The bandh call was given by Vishwa Hindu Parishad and supported by various other social and religious organizations. Business establishments downed their shutters till 11.00 am and various private schools remained closed in and around Jammu. Several state govt and private officers reported thin attendance as commuters going to offices faced lot of hardships following complete chakka jam. The activists supporting bandh call blocked traffic on the busy Tawi bridge in Jammu and also disrupted traffic on busy city routes. They moved around in and around city areas in small groups and shouted anti govt slogans while burning tyres in the middle of the roads at several important city landmarks.The three hour bandh passed off peacefully, reports reaching here said.
