Fidayeen attack foiled, police busts Lashker module

Police on Wednesday claimed to have foiled a major suicide attack by arresting three Over Ground militants from in Karan Nagar area, in the vicinity of Jammu and Kashmir Police Headquarter who were planning to carry out a Fidayeen attack in the area.
A huge cache of arms and ammunition was recovered from the arrested OWGs which they had transported from North Kashmir frontier district of Bandipora to be used during the attack in the area, Police sources told KMT.
Sources said that the OGWs had hired a room in Karan Nagar area to harbour the Fidayeens who were arriving to Srinagar along with more arms and ammunition.
They said that the trio was working for LeT militant outfit for several years but could not be apprehended so far.
The arrested OWGs working under the command of Lashker commander Abu Wafa alias Musa were identified as Mohammad Maqbool Mir alias Shaheen, son of Gh. Mohi-ud-Din Mir , resident of Gamroo Bandipora ,Ishfaq Ahmad Fazili alias Khand Peer , son of Mohammad Tariq Fazili , resident of Gamroo Bandipora and Ishtiyaq Ahmad Rather alias Billa, son of Gh. Rasool, resident of Bemina, Srinagar.
One AK rifle, six AK magazines, seven Chinese hand grenades and 200 rounds of AK ammunition was recovered from their possession.
Sources quoting Superintendent of Police Operations Srinagar, said that the preliminary interrogation of the arrested militants have revealed that they were waiting for more persons and arms to reach the place.
During the interrogation militants also revealed that the weapons were transported from Bandipore to Srinagar in a Tata Sumo, sources added.
Ishtiaq of Bemina had hired a room for the Fidayeens who were expected to arrive within few days to carry out the attack , sources said adding that all of the the three accused were instrumental in various militant attacks across the Valley.
