Dilawar tees-off GK Golf Tournament,
Says Golf promotes tourism

Srinagar|Sep 12 – Tourists staying at Pahalgam or Gulmarg need not to come to Srinagar for playing Golf as the Government has decided to upgrade Golf courses at these tourist places upto International Standard. Golf course at Pahalgam is being upgraded from existing nine holes to 18 holes and the greens of Gulmarg Golf course are being further standardized. In addition, a modern Golf course is also being developed at Sidhra in Jammu which will be ready by the next month.
This was stated by the Minister for Tourism Mohammad Dilawar Mir after teeing-off two days Greater Kashmir/Kashmir Uzma International Golf Tournament at Royal Spring Golf Course (RSGC) here this morning. About 100 Golfers including 35 from Chandigarh, 30 from Delhi and 25 Golfers from J&K are participating in the tournament.
The Minister said that Golf plays vital role in marketing tourism in J&K as Golfers from across the country act as brand ambassadors of Kashmir Tourism. He said state government has embarked upon an ambitious programme to promote Golfing alongside winter sports, skiing, adventure tourism and rafting. He said that J&K comprises of four different seasons and each season provides a varied and distinct attraction for the tourists as per their taste and likings.
Prominent among the Golf players participating in the Greater Kashmir International Tournament include Ex-Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah, Lalit Kapoor, Vicky Shaw, Kapil Koul, B. R. Singh, Janki Das Grover, Amit Grover etc. In all 100 Golfers will play gold in the tournament and try to win the prestigious trophy.
Golfers from outside the state expressed full satisfaction over the facilities being provided to them at the RSGC. “We are impressed by the hospitality offered here”, they remarked.
